Let us welcome our New President of SIAE, Kenneth Yeo Kwang Hwee:

14.01.2024

Dear members

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) was successfully concluded on 13th January 2024 with the election of the Executive Committee (ExCo) members to helm the next phase for the institute.  I’m honoured to have been chosen as the team leader for the new ExCo and will certainly do my best to serve as the new President of the Singapore Institute of Aerospace Engineers (SIAE).

The Institute has a long and rich history, having achieved so much – from pioneering efforts in the early years to successful events recorded up to the present time.  A proud moment as we look back and realise that the institute has acquired a good reputation.  I am grateful for the past generations of ExCo leaders and members who have brought the Institute thus far.  SIAE is indeed a success story in Singapore’s aviation history.

I would like to thank Associate Professor Lim Y. K., our immediate past President for his devotion to keep SIAE functional from 2013 to 2023.  It has been a privilege to have him ‘hold the fort’ even as the Institute steers itself through the COVID-19 pandemic years.

During my short introductory address at the earlier AGM in December 2023, I outlined my plans: existing, as well as the new activities for SIAE.  There are two objectives for these initiatives.  One, I hope to revitalise the Institute by creating ‘footprints’ in our local aviation industry.  If SIAE could become well-known, then our members would also benefit from getting professional recognition and respect.  Two, I hope to introduce the right values and create a common identity for SIAE members.  We can then stand united to make the Institute a strong body.

The next major event coming up for us, will be SIAE’s participation in the Singapore Aerospace Technology and Engineering Conference (SATEC), held in collaboration with the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF).  The event will be declared open by Senior Minister of State Mr. Heng Chee How on 21st February 2024 at Singapore Suntec City Convention Hall.  The conference theme this year is on ‘New Era of Aerospace Technology’, focusing on sustainable aviation and future combat discussion.  A list of interesting topics will be presented by industry leaders and subject expert speakers, so check out the details on SATEC web site in the next few weeks.  ExCo members will be there and those interested are encouraged to attend the conferences to learn innovative ideas and latest issues presented by our aerospace industry leaders.

The SATEC event is purposely scheduled during the Singapore Air Show to attract the high numbers of professionals and enthusiasts attending the exhibition events between 20th to 25th February.  Remember to tune in to the latest developments and aviation news from the show.  We can all learn something from this major event.

If the new SIAE’s work plan is on schedule, I would be hosting the first Seminar and meeting with some of our members soon.  Keep a lookout for the announcement of dates and registration details on social media platforms.  I look forward to meet up with you and have an exchange of ideas.

Let me thank the new ExCo members for coming on board to help SIAE achieve the goals I’ve Iset for 2024 and 2025.  I believe our efforts would eventually see benefits and gains for our members as we serve with conviction.

Here’s wishing you all, a good year ahead.

Kenneth Yeo,

President,

SIAE

Dear Members, Friends and fellow aviation Professionals.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all.

2019 has been a tough year for many people. We have economic and political upheavals, military activities and natural disasters at levels not seen in recent history. We too suffered some setbacks as we struggled to overcome challenges of infrastructure weaknesses since 2013 compounded by ATTC’s heavy commitment to maintain Seletar Aerospace Training Complex.

We thank our industry sponsors and support from government agencies. With the dedication and efforts of our volunteers in ExCo and various sub-committees, we managed to continue with our activities. We have completed the first round of Aviation Safety Competition 2019/20 and Vortex has been producing each quarterly issue on time. SATEC 2020 is progressing well, but we still need sponsors and sales of conference tickets to make it viable. The total cost of organising SATEC is about $80,000.

At the 44th AGM held on 14 Nov 2019, the following were elected:

Position Name Remarks
President Lim Yeow Khee Extended 4th Term
Hon Secretary Darrel Chua New
Hon Treasurer Cai Zhuohan New (Co-opted)
Hon Asst Secretary Jonathan Chan New
Hon Asst Treasurer Willian Goh Past President
Committee Members Jackie Chen Pai 2nd Term
Leon Chua Veteran
Lim Chui Ping 2nd Term
Mike McCormack Veteran

Toh Mun Wah Veteran

Although we did not manage to fill in all the positions in our new ExCo, a silver lining can be seen in the rejuvenation process.

A special welcome to our 4 new members, Darrel Chua, Cai Zhuohan, Jonathan Chan and Kelvin Ong. With our new Manager, Ms Lim Huey Syiane, we look forward to members and industry support to drive our mission of building a strong aviation culture for our NGAP to continue to make air transport safe.

To members of the last ExCo who are not able to continue with us due to their work and personal commitments: Tan Chu Hiang, Jonathan Hung, Chow Kok Wah, Fung Yee Tik, Robin Viva Thevathasan and Simon Wayne. Thank you and we hope for your continuing support in other ways.

May 2020 bring peace and stability to our dear planet Earth.

Lim Yeow Khee BBM
