Dear Members, Aviation Associates and Friends
As we come to end of the year, let me wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Great New Year. Let’s look forward to 2021 as an opening of a new chapter in our lives and especially for Aviation.
2020 will be remembered as the challenge to aviation from a surprising, but not unknown source. Infectious disease has been identified as one of the four horsemen of apocalypse. The other three being geohazard, food supply and wars.
We can look at Covid-19 as an awakening to something that is inevitable. It is neither good nor bad but almost necessary as we take on this path to globalise every aspect of human activities. A problem resulting from our globalisation effort needs the global citizen solution. Advances in Aviation may be driven by technology, but it is the human interface that matters. It is natural that national interest dominates in times of crises, but the aviation community has learnt that we can thrive better with global cooperation and sharing of information. Survival without thriving is not progress.
I was once asked “What will happen if there are no aerospace engineers?” My answer is simple, “more people will die and less people will travel”. Technology and engineers are here to make the world a better place to live in.
Don’t underestimate your ingenuity, creativity and resilience. We have brought air travel to this point, unimaginable just 50 years ago. We fought high fuel prices and terrorism and managed de-regulation, political and social turmoil and armed conflicts. Aviation has played important roles in all these upheavals. We will evolve a new era of serving mankind with safe and relevant travel which is unmatched by any other means of transport in terms of speed and efficiency.
Stay Safe, Save Lives and build resilience to prepare for the new era in aviation.
