Dear SIAE Members,
You are invited for the next SIAE Café Aeronautique!
Title of Talk: How Airlines Decide on Billion-dollar Airplane Purchases
Speaker: Chow Kok Wah
Synopsis: Aircraft selection and purchase is one of the biggest decisions an airline make. A major purchase involves billions of dollars and a long lead-time before the first aircraft arrival. Aircraft selection is a very complex process involving the marketers, accountants, engineers and senior management even up to the Chairman of the airline and often attracting worldwide publicity. Making a wrong decision could significantly affect an airline’s profitability and even survival. The presentation will highlight the key factors decision-makers consider and the road-map to aircraft delivery after the contracts are signed.
About the Speaker: Mr Chow is currently the General Manager of Air Transport Training College and the Honorary Secretary of Singapore Institute of Aerospace Engineers. Prior to that, he has more than 3 decades of engineering experience in the Engineering Division of Singapore Airlines and more than a decade as Deputy Head of the Engineering Division. His duties included participation in teams involved in the selection, purchase and delivery of the Boeing B777, Airbus A330, A340 and the A380.
